Entwicklungsfahrzeug 100 (Adler) with Maus II turret

The E 100 was a design of the Adlerwerke from Frankfurt made in June 1943. It based on the November 1942 Tiger-Maus design of Krupp. There were only differences in the suspension. Official reason by Wa Prüf 6 of the Heereswaffenamt why Adler was commissioned with the construction of the vehicle instead of Krupp was - even though Adler had no previous experience in constructing tank chassis and tank turrets – that Krupp was said to be fully engaged with other tasks. Even though it was soon proven that the Adler design was only a modified Krupp design, Adler started with the construction of a first test chassis near Paderborn.

The construction was delayed due to missing parts. In July 1944 Hitler ordered the stop of construction of all super heavy tank projects. From this point on only three employees of Adler continued working on the chassis. It is not known which turret and weapon the chassis should have gotten. At a meeting in May 1944 the chief oft he tank construction department of Krupp, Ob.-Ing. Wölfert, was presented a draft with a Maus turret with 15-cm-KwK 44 and 7,5-cm-KwK 37. Krupp was still the producer of turret and gun.  

There were also talkings about using a modified version of the Maus II turret with 12,8-cm-KwK 44. Other designs included a tank destroyer with 15-cm-StuK L/63 (Cobi 3036) or 17-cm-StuK L/53.

The test chassis was not finshed. It was captured by British troops and was scrapped in England after studying the vehicle.
